Overview

MenuViz ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

The short version: We collect as little data as possible. No account is required. We don't sell your data. Menu photos are processed and immediately discarded.

Data We Collect

Device Identifier

We generate an anonymous device identifier to manage your free usage limits and purchased credits. This identifier:

• Is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal information
• Is stored securely on your device using the iOS Keychain
• Is sent with each API request to track usage limits
• Cannot be used to identify you personally

Menu Photos

When you scan a menu, the photo is:

• Sent to our secure servers (AWS Lambda) for AI processing
• Forwarded to Google Gemini AI for menu parsing
• Not stored on our servers after processing is complete
• Not used for training AI models

Usage Data

We track basic usage metrics per device:

• Number of menu scans per day (for free tier limits)
• Image credit balance
• We do not track which restaurants you visit, what dishes you view, or your location

In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and by RevenueCat (our payment processor). We receive:

• Transaction confirmation and credit amount
• An anonymous RevenueCat user ID linked to your device identifier
• We do not receive your payment details, name, or Apple ID

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and never leaves it:

• Parsed menu data (restaurant names, dish information)
• AI-generated dish images
• Onboarding completion status
• Your original menu photos (stored locally only)

You can delete all local data by uninstalling the app.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Gemini AI — For menu parsing and image generation. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat — For managing in-app purchases. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — For hosting our backend services. Subject to AWS's Privacy Policy.

What We Don't Do

• We don't require accounts, emails, or any personal information
• We don't sell or share your data with advertisers
• We don't track your location
• We don't use analytics or tracking SDKs
• We don't store your menu photos after processing
• We don't use your data for AI training

Camera and Photo Library

MenuViz requests access to your camera and photo library solely for the purpose of scanning restaurant menus. These permissions are optional — you can also import menu photos from your library instead of using the camera.

Children's Privacy

MenuViz is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
